A company that uses subcontractors cannot maintain the excellence of workmanship or the superiority of employees on the site. The contractor does not have control over whom the sub hires or the skill and proficiency of the workmanship. You end up gambling on who is actually installing your roof when you hire contractors that use sublets for their installations.
Florida state law requires a license for anyone installing a new roof, re-roof, and/or roof repairs. The license required by the local building department is also required of any subcontractor.
In general, a business subcontracting labor will have a lower price than a company who doesn't. Since they are cutting corners on labor & workers comp, they may also be trimming their price with cheaper building materials &/or practices. Will you be able to tell if materials specified in the contract were actually used in construction? Will your contractor still be around should future problems arise?
